Rokeya Memorial Foundation Lecture, gold medal, scholarship award ceremony held at DU

Dhaka University Rokeya Hall held day-long programs on Thursday on the occasion of Rokeya Day. The programs included rally, Begum Rokeya Memorial Foundation Lecture, Gold Medal and Scholarship Award.
On this occasion, a Memorial Foundation Lecture, Gold Medal and Scholarship Award Ceremony was organized in the Rokeya Hall Auditorium in the evening. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan spoke as the chief guest at the event.
The event was presided over by Rokeya Hall Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin ) Prof Dr. Hosne Ara Begum, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Majeda Saber, a member of Begum Rokeya's family, spoke as special guests.
Former Pro-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University and former Dean of the Hall, Prof Dr. Jinnatun Nesa Tahmida Begum, delivered a commemorative speech titled 'Begum Rokeya's Dream: Women's Empowerment and Social Progress'. Deans of various faculties, Deans of various halls, former Deans of Rokeya Hall, alumni, students and guardians were present at the event. Resident teachers of the hall, Warda Rehab and Tasmia Naureen, conducted the event.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan paid deep tribute to the memory of the great woman Begum Rokeya and said that she struggled to build a society without discrimination. There is still a lot of discrimination in our society. Therefore, the ideals and history of Begum Rokeya's struggle are still relevant in our society.
Congratulating the students who received gold medals and scholarships, the Vice-Chancellor said that the ideals, struggle and personality of Begum Rokeya should be reflected in the lives of the students.
Suraiya Zebin Papiya, a student of the Department of Political Science, has received the Begum Rokeya Memorial Foundation Gold Medal this year. The students who received merit scholarships are Malik Fariha Mehnaz (Law), Farhana Faisal Satta (Management), Sadia Nasrin Sara (Ocean Science) and Sushmita Talukder (Pharmacy). The students who received general scholarships are Ferdous Afrin (Biochemistry and Molecular Science), Priya Kundu (Disaster Science and Climate Resilience), Shimu Kar (Political Science) and Nazia Hossain (Plant Science). In addition, Afrin Akhter Ritu, a student of the Department of Geography and Environment, has received a welfare scholarship.
