Police- students clash at SUST, several students injured

Several protesting students and two members of police were injured as law enforcers fired shotguns and rubber bullets at quota protesters outside Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet on Thursday afternoon.
Students were demonstrating for reform of the quota system in government jobs and blocked the Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway in front of the university.
The protesters did not leave the spot when police told them to, and around 1:15pm, the protestors started throwing stones and brick chunks at police.
Police then baton-charged the students and lobbed sound grenades, shotgun fire and rubber bullets.
Injured students were rushed to different hospitals and the protestors are now demonstrating by blocking roads at Madina Market, Akhalia and Kumargaon areas.
