Mob beatings on alarming rise in N’ganj Taking law into own hands is unacceptable: SP

Mob beatings are on the alarming rise in Narayanganj. At the mere mention of words like "thief" or "robber," locals become alarmed. Suspicious individuals are being captured and attacked by the crowd. People are using sticks or whatever they can find to beat them mercilessly.

Later, the injured individuals are sent to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors declare them dead. Reports of such incidents frequently appear in newspapers.

According to media reports, from December 1 to January 4, four people have been killed in four separate mob beating incidents in Narayanganj—two in Araihazar and two in Fatullah.

Regarding this, Narayanganj Police Superintendent Pratyush Kumar Majumdar told the media that under no circumstances should people take the law into their own hands, and everyone needs to be cautious and more aware.

On the night of January 4, a man named Mokbul Hossain Mukul (45) was killed in a mob beating in the Jogardia area of Mahmudpur Union in Araihazar on suspicion of being a robber. Police reported that Mokbul Hossain Mukul had five robbery-related cases against him at the Araihazar police station.

On December 27, another individual named Billal (45) died in a mob beating on suspicion of being a robber. Billal was the son of Majid from Narandi village in Haizadi Union, Araihazar. Police confirmed that Billal was a professional robber with multiple cases against him at Araihazar police station.

On December 15, in Fatullah, locals attacked Kamrul Hasan (24), suspecting him to be a mugger. He later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Kamrul Hasan was the son of Mainuddin Patowary from Paschim Krishtapur village in Haimchar police station, Chandpur district.

On December 1, another mob beating incident occurred in Fatullah, where a man named Nadim (33) died. Police reported that Nadim was injured while trying to flee after committing a mugging. He later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital.
