Meghna water following above danger level : People of 20 villages suffering

Bhola Correspondent

Meghna water has been flowing above the danger level for 5 consecutive days in Bhola. At least 20 villages outside the dam have been submerged. Thousands of people have suffered as a result. Food and clean water shortages have emerged in most areas. Vast towns including roads, crop lands, houses were submerged in 3-4 feet of tidal water.

The people of the affected area have suffered greatly. Flood-affected Khadija and Fatema said, We have been floating in water for four days, our houses and yards have been submerged. I am spending the day in extreme pain.

No one is looking for us. Kandakpur, Medua, Ramdaspur, Dakshin Rajapur, Daiya, Senapur, Paschimpur Kandakpur villages of Bhola Sadar's Rajapur union are submerged when the tide comes as they are outside the flood control dam. Because of which most people are suffering. The same picture is of Dhaniya Union at Sadar.

5 villages there drowned when the tide came. Rajapur UP member Masud Rana said that most of the villages of Rajapur union have been submerged in tidal water. There is a shortage of food and clean water in the affected areas. These people need relief assistance.

Harun, a UP member of ward number 4, said that the people of the area are suffering so much because there is no flood control dam in our village. If dams are provided, people will not have such suffering. When asked about this, Bhola Water Development Board Executive Engineer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman said that the people living outside the flood control dams of Rajapur and Dhania Union are suffering from tidal water. We are thinking of constructing an alternative dam there.

It is known that for the last 5 days due to the effect of the full moon, the village has been flooded by the Meghna tide and the water remains constant for 4-5 hours. Later, the water recedes in the valley, but permanent waterlogging is created in some places. They are spending days in trouble. Due to water retention, many people's kitchen stoves are not burning.

According to the officials of the Water Development Board, this situation has been created due to the effect of the tide created by the full moon. They said that this situation will prevail for another week.

Bhola Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Touhidul Islam said that water rises and falls in those villages so they cannot be called water-locked. They have this condition every tide. We have asked the local chairmen to prepare a list to help the victims. After the list is prepared, relief assistance will be given to them later.
