Kulaura Upazila and Municipal BNP Convening Committees were announced in Kulaura, Moulvibazar on Monday (January 20) night with the joint signatures of District BNP Convener Faizul Karim Mayun and Member Secretary Abdur Rahim Ripon.

The announcement of a new 21-member Upazila BNP convening committee has led to mixed reactions among local BNP leaders and activists. It has been alleged that those who have been victims of repression, cases and imprisonment by the Awami fascist government for 16 years have not been evaluated in this committee. Followers of the leaders and activists who have been deprived of their positions and have been subjected to underestimation are criticizing them extensively through social media from home and abroad. Mixed reactions have started regarding this.

The officials in charge of the announced Upazila Convener Committee are - Convener Redwan Khan, Senior Joint Convener Badrul Hossain Khan, Joint Conveners Abdul Jalil Jamal and Shawkatul Islam Shaku, members ANM Khaled Lucky, Mainul Haque Bakul, Joynal Abedin Bachchu, Shamim Ahmed Chowdhury, MA Majid, Azizur Rahman Monir, Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan, Badruzzaman Sajal, Dr. Md. Taru Khan, Abu Sufian, Faruk Ahmed Panna, Akddas Ali, Rumel Khan, Harun Mia, Kamor Uddin Kamru, Abdul Muktadir Muktar and Kamrul Islam Pakhi.

Former vice-presidents of Upazila BNP Rafiq Ahmed and Rafiq Mia Fatu, publicity secretary Sheikh Shahidul Islam, organizing secretaries Abdus Salam and Delwar Hossain, volunteer affairs secretary Sarwar Alam Belal, assistant volunteer affairs secretary Surman Ahmed, student affairs secretary Abdul Muktadir Monu, religious affairs secretary Saiful Islam, youth affairs secretary Abdul Muhith Bablu, members Joynul Islam Juned, Kamal Ahmed, Moniruzzaman Helal, BNP leader Muhitur Rahman and many others have been excluded from the convening committee.\

Former organizing secretary of Upazila BNP and current member of the convening committee Sufian Ahmed wrote in his Facebook post, I am sorry and ashamed. Among those who led the movement on the roads of Kulaura like sparks, Sarwar Alam Belal, Abdul Muktadir Manu, Sheikh Shahidul Islam, Surman Ahmed, Saiful Islam were among those members. Those who had become accustomed to strike-blockade, jail, and playing the police are now irrelevant to the organization called BNP. And those who used to threaten not to participate in the movement while sitting at home are now in the committee. You will undoubtedly have to take responsibility for such a gap between the words and deeds of the policy makers. Sheikh Hasina is the burning proof of how, where, and when the situation will arise.

Former Upazila BNP member and US expatriate Mazharul Islam Joni expressed his anger and wrote in his Facebook post that the announcement of the convening committee has led to mixed reactions in the local political arena. Especially those who have faced repression, cases, and imprisonment by the Awami fascist government for 15 long years have been shown contempt in this committee. Ignoring the dedicated, experienced and selfless leaders of the party, some people have been included in the committee who were inactive and at a safe distance from the party movement in the past.

Those who have played a strong role in the party's difficult times for a long time have not been properly evaluated for their hard work and sacrifice. Ignoring the respect, experience and sacrifice of the leaders indicates a split within a political party. The opinions of local leaders have been ignored in this committee approved by the district, which is inconsistent with the principles of a democratic party. Those who have not participated in any effective movement for the party in the last 15 years are now taking the opportunity to present themselves as selfless leaders. This is giving rise to frustration and anger within the party. In this situation, it is necessary to strongly appeal to the central and district leadership to restore party unity and properly evaluate the selfless leaders. If this crisis of the Upazila BNP is not resolved quickly, its negative impact will hurt the morale of the party workers and weaken the future movement.

Former municipal councilor Kaisar Arif wrote in his Facebook post, "The senior and junior members of the Kulaura Upazila and Municipal BNP convening committees should have been considered in the serial.A reaction to this is being observed among the common people.

Former organizational secretary of Kulaura Municipal BNP and current member of the convening committee, Zuber Khan, wrote in his Facebook post, "Kulaura Municipal BNP's renegade leaders Amir Khasru, Morshed, Mosharraf, Bhutto and many others have been left out. We demand that they be evaluated."

Abdul Muktadir Manu, who was deprived of his position in the Upazila Convening Committee, wrote on his Facebook, "It cannot be removed through conspiracy. BNP is mixed with blood, it is not that easy. I was, am and will be."

Sarwar Alam Belal, who was deprived of his position in the Upazila Convening Committee, said, "During the party's bad times, I was always active in the field in all the movements and struggles on the highway. But during the party's good times, we were victims of discrimination. I will always be by the side of the party for any need."
