Inquilab Mancha, a non-political cultural organisation comprising former and current students of Dhaka University (DU), blocked Kakrail Mosque intersection in the capital on Sunday (December 22) to press for their three-point demand, including the cancellation of the Awami League’s registration as a political party.

Earlier, their procession, which began at 12:30 pm from the National Museum in Shahbagh, was stopped by law enforcement as it approached "Jamuna," the residence of the Chief Adviser.

The Inquilab Mancha was halted near the Kakrail Mosque intersection at around 1 pm by police and APBN members who had set up barricades on both sides of the road leading to the residence.

In response, the protesters, led by Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, took up positions at the intersection, with some lying down on the road and effectively blocking traffic.

However, due to their small numbers, vehicles continued to move through side roads.

Sharif Osman Hadi said that unless their demands are addressed by an advisor or they are allowed to meet with the Chief Adviser, the group will intensify their protest by blocking the road indefinitely and initiating a mass hunger strike.

The Three Demands of Inquilab Manch are - 1. Immediate cancellation of the "genocidal" Awami League’s registration, 2. Immediate arrest of all individuals involved in alleged terrorist activities within the Awami League, and 3. Assurance of full security for all "July fighters" in Bangladesh, including those affiliated with private universities.

However, law enforcement officials have maintained a heavy presence to prevent further escalation.
