699 containers from Pakistan arrive at Chattogram in second shipment
Chattogram Bureau
A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship, MV Yuan Xiang Fa Zhan, has brought 699 containers to Chattogram Port in its second shipment from Pakistan's Karachi Port.
The vessel, carrying 825 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), docked at Chattogram's outer anchorage on Saturday.
The port’s Secretary Omar Faruk confirmed that container unloading will begin after the ship docks at the port's jetty on Sunday.
During its previous trip, 370 containers arrived, of which 297 were from Karachi.
Dubai-based container shipping operator Feeder Lines DMCC has launched this new service.
Regensea Lines Limited, a subsidiary of Karnaphuli Limited, is the local agent for this service.
Regensea Lines Executive Director Anis Ud Dowla told bdnews24.com that the ship had arrived at Chattogram's outer anchorage carrying 126 containers from Dubai's Jebel Ali Port and 699 from Karachi.
The cargo includes raw materials for the garment industry, dolomite, refined sugar, minerals, soda ash, fabric rolls, dates, lubricating oil, machinery parts, and other goods.
The first direct container shipment from Karachi to Chattogram arrived in November last year.
The vessel now follows a regular route from Dubai’s Jebel Ali port via Karachi to Chattogram and will return to Dubai after visiting ports in Indonesia, Malaysia, and India.
Shipping industry insiders said it takes about 38 to 42 days for the vessel to complete the round trip from Dubai to Karachi, Chattogram, and back.
Shipping agents are optimistic that, depending on trade growth between the two countries, the number of ships on this route may increase in the future.
