Md. Monowar Hossain, Panchbibi (Joypurhat) 

 Panchbibi Police thana police  arrested four individuals in connection with the attempted murder of student leader Shamim in Panchbibi, Joypurhat. In a late-night operation on Saturday at around 2:30 a.m..

 The investigation officer Inspector (Investigation) Md. Imayedul Jahedi, along with Sub-Inspectors Zahidul Islam and Abdullah Al Masum, arrested the suspects from their homes in South Topakhola under Kotwali Police Station in Faridpur District and one individual from Bhajandanga.

The arrested individuals are: Zahidul Islam Jalal Molla (45), son of the late Abdul Majid Molla, Panu Sheikh (38), son of the late Sheikh Samad, Jakib Sheikh (30), son of Md. Farhad Sheikh and  Raju Fakir (42), son of the late Alam Fakir

According to the case details, on the night of April 14, 2025, at around 9:30 p.m., former organizational secretary of the district unit of Chhatra Dal (BNP’s student wing), Shamim, was talking with Md. Harunur Rashid Sajal, Asaduzzaman, and others in front of the "New Garments and Cloth Store" in Panchbibi Bazar under Panchbibi Municipality.

At that time, accused numbers 3, 4, and 5, along with others, following a prior plan and out of previous enmity, approached the scene on two motorbikes from the direction of the Panchbibi Government Post Office. Six assailants (three on each motorbike) stopped near the store. Among them, accused Panu Sheikh and previously arrested Rubel pulled out pistols from their waists and fired shots targeting Shamim with the intention to kill him. Fortunately, Shamim narrowly escaped with his life.

Locals chased the attackers, and during their attempt to flee, dropped their motorcycles and ran. Rubel Hossain, accused number 1, was apprehended by locals on top of Panchbibi's Railway Gate No. 1. The locals found a pistol, a magazine, and four rounds of bullets on him. Police were immediately informed, and they rushed to the scene, took Rubel into custody, and seized the weapon, ammunition, and the motorbike.

Inspector (Investigation) Md. Imayedul Jahedi said,  after the arrest of Rubel Hossain, he disclosed valuable information during interrogation. Based on that information and with the help of digital surveillance, four more suspects were arrested from Faridpur.
