Dewanbag shrine vandalised, set on fire in Narayanganj

Attackers have vandalised and torched the Dewanbag Mazar or shrine, in Narayanganj’s Bandar Upazila, leaving at least four people injured.
According to Golam Mostafa, the chief of Bandar Police Station, the incident occurred around 6am on Friday.
The injured – Md Shahnewaz, 60, Md Shimul, 36, Osman Gani, 70, and Zakir, 32 - are currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
An individual named Md Ali told bdnews24.com: “Around 6am, some anti-shrine people attacked and vandalised the Dewanbag Sharif at first. When the people inside tried to resist them, the attackers beat them up. Later, they set it on fire and fled.”
According to locals, the shrine was looted and attacked again in the afternoon.
“A group of people entered the shrine in the morning and vandalised it. Later, they also set it ablaze,” said OC Mostafa.
“The perpetrators have yet to be identified. However, police are trying to bring them to justice,” he added.
District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumdar visited the spot in the afternoon, said the OC.
Earlier, on Aug 25, the Aynal Shah Dargah shrine was destroyed in Sonargaon Upazila’s Sonmandi Union.
