Boro paddy procurement drive begins in Morelganj

The official inauguration of the internal Boro paddy procurement campaign for the fiscal year 2024–25 has been held in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
The campaign was formally launched at the upazila food warehouse by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Habibullah.
Present at the inauguration ceremony were Upazila Food Officer Dhrubo Mondal, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Saiful Islam, along with representatives from various professions and respected local dignitaries. On this occasion, a brief discussion meeting was organized by the Upazila Food Department.
At the meeting, Acting Upazila Food Officer Md. Ershad Ali stated that the target has been set to procure a total of 670 metric tons of paddy in the upazila this season. At the government-fixed rate, paddy will be purchased directly from farmers at Tk. 36 per kilogram and Tk. 1,440 per maund. Farmers holding official procurement cards will be allowed to supply up to a maximum of 3 metric tons.
Officials expressed hope that this government paddy procurement initiative will play a significant role in ensuring the country's food security and in providing fair prices to the farmers.
