Blacksmiths in Ishwardi passing time ahead of Eid

TA Panna, Roving Correspondent, Ishwardi ( Pabna)
Blacksmiths in Ishwardi are preparing for Eid with iron fire. Only six days are left for Eid-ul-Azha.

With Eid-ul-Azha in sight, the blacksmiths of Ishwardi are now busy with the last minute. From dawn to midnight, the sound of hammers and the smoke of melting iron in the
fire and the story of sweaty labor have become one. In some market areas of Ishwardi's municipal area Sahapur, Lakshikunda, Salimpur, Dashuria, Muladuli and various blacksmiths in the hats and bazaars of Sada Union, Eid preparations have become a picture of brick kiln workers carrying bricks in the scorching sun.

Like every year, this year too, the workload of blacksmiths has increased several times around Eid-ul-Azha. In addition to making knives, chapatis, axes, and machetes, the work of repairing old machinery is also going on in
full swing. This situation has been created especially for the external staff working in the Rooppur Nuclear Project, EPZ, and Railway Divisional Office. Blacksmiths said that they have to spend the most busy time
before Eid. They do not get time to eat. Almost half of the income of the year is arranged during this time.

Along with the demand for knives, knives, and chappars, the hardship has also increased a lot. Abdus Salam, a blacksmith from Awta Para, Arambaria, said, during Eid, the demand for knives, chopper and forks is so high
that even if your hands and feet hurt, you cannot stop working. You have to work to meet your family's daily expenses. Despite being very busy, the temperature has become a bigger challenge this time compared to other
times.

He said, there is a coal fire, and on top of that, the sun is hot. It becomes difficult to work sitting or standing under a tin roof, especially in the afternoon." Blacksmith Nitai Ratan Roy said, our work increases during two Eids a year. Besides, we are busy during the agricultural season. He also said, even though we do not get much value for our work throughout the year, our demand increases especially before the two Eids.

Meanwhile, due to the high workload, many are having to work with additional manpower. Production costs have also increased due to the increase in the price of raw materials in the local market. Blacksmiths hope that this Eid will be worthwhile at least to some extent. Those involved in the industry are not only artists, but also blacksmiths and they are
also called life warriors.

This profession, which has survived even in the midst of poverty and hardship, has now become largely hereditary. The talent, skill and labor of these artists, who have survived in line with technology, have become public and state services in many ways. Although there is not much demand for them throughout the year, many consider themselves an important part of society as the demand increases during the Eid season. Many also comment that they also enjoy the joy of Eid in their homes across the country along with their religious involvement.
