Due to the influence of the deep depression "Shakti" formed recently in the Bay of Bengal, several areas of Noakhali’s Hatia Upazila were flooded by an abnormally high tide. As a result, at least 30 families residing outside the embankment in Char Ishwar Union were severely affected. Standing by these families, the Hatia Upazila Administration has stepped forward with relief efforts.

UNO Md. Alauddin distributed one bundle of corrugated iron sheets (CI sheets), BDT 3,000 in cash, and 15 kilograms of rice to each of the 30 affected families in the area adjacent to Maichha Market in Char Ishwar Union on Tuesday. 

The relief distribution program was attended by officials and employees from the Upazila Project Implementation Office, administrative officers from the UNO’s office, local journalists, and members of the beneficiary families.

According to the Hatia Upazila Administration, numerous families living in low-lying areas and outside embankments in the unions of Nolchira, Sukhchar, Char Ishwar, Tamarddi, Sonadia, Nijhum Dwip, Harny, and Chanandi were affected by the tidal surge caused by the deep depression. A list is currently being prepared in collaboration with the respective Union Parishads to assess the extent of the damage.

UNO Md. Alauddin stated that every family affected by the abnormal tidal surge caused by Cyclone Shakti will receive assistance in phases. Families whose homes were destroyed are being provided with CI sheets and cash aid for rehabilitation. Relief distribution activities will continue in all affected unions based on the prepared lists.

To assess the cyclone and tidal damage firsthand, the UNO visited various disaster-affected areas and gave immediate directives for relief assistance. Following these instructions, the Project Implementation Office promptly prepared a list and began distributing relief.
