
Bamboo fence to prevent riverbank erosion : Leaseholders demand establishment of temporary police camp in Jadukata

Shah Rubel Ahmed, the lessee of Jadukata-2 Balumahal, has installed bamboo fences to prevent illegal sand mining and riverbank cutting in the popular tourist areas of Jadukata River and Shimul Bagan in Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj. At the same time, he has demanded the establishment of a temporary police camp or Ansar camp to maintain security and law and order in the area.
In a recent petition submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, Shah Rubel Ahmed mentioned that the area adjacent to the Jadukata River and Shimul Bagan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. But due to illegal sand mining, river bank cutting, extortion and environmental hazards, local residents and tourists have been suffering for a long time. He also said that the navigability of the river has been severely damaged due to the unethical activities of some former lessees and sand miners. In this situation, after observing the geographical condition of the river and taking charge, he has on his own initiative installed bamboo fences to protect the river banks so that no one can mine sand illegally.
Shah Rubel Ahmed, the lessee of Balu Mahal-2 of the Jadukata River, said, "I have installed a bamboo fence on my own initiative to protect the natural beauty and environment of the Jadukata River and on August 26, I appealed to the District Administrator to set up a temporary police or Ansar camp in the area with the help of the administration, so that the law and order situation remains normal and tourists can travel safely." Badaghat Police Outpost In-charge Md. Hafiz Uddin said that the upazila administration has installed bamboo fences to prevent riverbank cutting in response to the demands of the villagers.
Tahirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Delwar Hossain said that bamboo fences have been installed on the initiative of the upazila administration and locals to stop illegal cutting of the banks of the Jadukata River.
