Allegations of irregularities : Appointment of nine new DCs cancelled

Mashrakha Jahan Mona

There have been allegations of widespread irregularities and corruption in the appointment of 59 newly appointed Deputy Commissioners (DCs). Not only that, most of them were very close to the outgoing Awami League government.

Many of them worked as PSs (Private Secretaries) to ministers, state ministers, mayors and trusted party secretaries of the then government. The concerned parties have provided the necessary information to the government in this regard. In such a situation, the officials appointed and demoted to important posts for the last 15 and a half years have demanded cancellation of two separate notifications related to the appointment of 59 DCs.

According to them, relatively competent, talented and honest officers should be appointed to the post of DC from among the deprived. The Ministry of Public Administration has canceled the appointment of nine people in the last two days after admitting irregularities in the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs).

Besides, four DC districts have been changed. A one-member committee headed by Senior Secretary Health Services Department MA Akmal Hossain Azad has been formed to investigate the ruckus of officials deprived of DC appointment as disorderly conduct and indecent behavior. The committee was asked to submit its report with recommendations within the next seven working days. The Ministry of Public Administration will provide secretarial support to the committee.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration . Md. Mokhles Ur Rahman said in a press briefing at his office on Wednesday.

"We have canceled the appointment of 8 DCs after reviewing the media and agency reports. Earlier on Tuesday, the appointment of a DC was cancelled. The appointment was canceled before they joined the workplace. Correct information about them was not presented to the appointment committee.

The secretary also said that the ruckus made by those deprived of appointment to the post of DC in the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday afternoon was an unwanted incident. He termed the matter as chaos and indecent behavior and said that the committee has been formed to find out the reason why such an incident happened. The committee has been asked to submit a report with recommendations. Then legal action will be taken.

The secretary also said that a meeting of the DC pre-appointment interview committee was held under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday. In the light of the decision of that meeting, action has been taken against 8 DCs. After checking for 20 days, the DC was appointed, yet when asked why such an incident happened, the public administration secretary said - confusion in information, communicator gap, that's why it happened. The person who was asked to provide the information could not provide the correct information. Or that information came to our hands after being appointed as DC.

After all the scrutiny, whether the corrupt officials are promoted or appointed as DC, the secretary said, Are we all good people? Give us wrong information or withhold correct information. We are doing our duty with honesty. Aware enough. Even so, humans are fallible. If there is any irregularity somewhere, let me know, I will take action.

In response to a question about how six officials of the fitlist prepared during the previous government were appointed as DCs, the secretary said that it is the work of those who give us secretarial assistance. They do these things. We have prepared a fitlist of 106 people after verification. In between, if anyone gives us any bad information, we will definitely take action.

In response to a question regarding the demands of deprived officials, the secretary said, "This government has come in exchange for the blood of our children." Within these few days of the new government, we have promoted more than three hundred officials. He was promoted from Senior Assistant Secretary to Additional Secretary within three days. We are working. In response to a question, the Public Administration Secretary said that the seven vacant secretaries in various ministries will be appointed soon. All of them will be taken from among the working officers.

Demands of the deprived: Deprived officials in the last 15 and a half years told reporters on Wednesday that the two notifications issued for the appointment of DC should be canceled by today (Wednesday). Because in this appointment, the private secretaries of the secretaries, senior secretaries have been appointed during the outgoing government. People who joined Bangladesh Chhatra League in student life are appointed as DC. Many of them were involved in factionalism with influential leaders during the previous government.

Besides, there are allegations of corruption-irregularity, arbitrariness against some. The proof of this is that the Ministry of Public Administration has canceled the appointment of 9 DCs in the last two days. That means the appointment was flawed. So their appointment should be cancelled.

They also said that those who are honest, qualified and talented among the deprived officials in the past should be appointed as DC. On the question of who committed irregularities in DC recruitment, Deputy Secretary Nurul Hafiz and Nurul Karim Bhuiyan told reporters that some people of the recruitment committee are involved in the incident. However, the senior secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration assured, the chief adviser. A decision will be taken after talking to Muhammad Yunus.

Nurul Karim Bhuiyan also said, "Our demand is that those who are beneficiaries in the past days at all levels of the administration, who are involved in the killing of the students, who have stood in the way of murder, looting and reform of the state and are working against the basic aspirations and spirit of this revolution of the students until now, those The official should be dismissed by on Wednesday . This was our main demand.

Accreditation of new DCs: Tanveer Ahmed, who was appointed as DC of Dhaka, is the nephew of former DC of Dhaka and Chittagong, Mominur Rahman. Tanveer Ahmed was PS to former law secretary Abu Saleh Zahirul Islam .
