The 30th founding anniversary of the non-governmental organization SLOPB celebrated in Bauphal, Patuakhali with a grand ceremony.
The ceremony was held at an orphanage of Shabab in Madanpura area of the upazila on Monday.
The ceremony was organized under the chairmanship of Shabab Chairperson Kirti Nishan Chakma and was attended by the chief guest, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Multilateral/Regional) Amb. M. Riaz Hamidullah.
The special guests were the Ambassador of the Netherlands Amb. Andre Carstens, Director General (Joint Secretary) of the NGO Affairs Bureau Md. Anwar Hossain and one of the country's media personalities Hanif Sanket.
The welcome address was given by Shabab advisor Roshan Jahan Moni and several beneficiaries who have been established in the society through Shabab's activities. Shabab's founder and chief advisor Motaleb Waiters delivered a special speech at the event.
It is worth noting that Motaleb of Dhulia Union, Baufar, went missing in Barisal about 50 years ago. At that time, a foreigner from the Netherlands took the responsibility of raising him and took him to his country.
When Motaleb came to Bangladesh 25 years later, Motaleb's identity was revealed through programs such as Hanif Sanket.
Then, with the support of various international organizations including the Netherlands, Shabab established an orphanage for helpless children, started healthcare for the needy, and started microfinance programs. So far, the organization has spread its activities widely in Patuakhali, Barguna, and Barisal.
