The Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University, Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim, has said that the words "break" and "relief" are different in any context. We must refrain from misinformation and disinformation.
She said this as a special honored guest at the Tapan Bihari Nag Trust Scholarship Award Ceremony organized by the Faculty of Law at Jagannath University on Wednesday.
At this time, the Vice-Chancellor said, "We need to understand the difference between misinformation and disinformation. Overzealous activists on Facebook are confusing the two and creating conflict."
The Vice-Chancellor said, "Women must be self-reliant in the workplace. For this, they need to work hard, study more, and be socially aware. Women's participation in the legal field must be increased. More women need to become lawyers as their lives are very challenging. They need to be self-reliant and acquire knowledge."
Attorney General Abu Mohammad Amin Uddin, as the chief guest at the event, said, "We need to look into the land system of Bangladesh. In civil cases, 90% are related to land, and in criminal cases, 40 to 50% stem from land disputes. Understanding land law will benefit society. To be a good lawyer, one must be a good person. We need to advance with the aim of serving people while maintaining our ethics."
He further said, "There was a time when women were not admitted into the judiciary. This was not in the law. It was changed by Bangabandhu. By changing the law, he declared that everyone could join this profession. Now, women are becoming judges at all levels. They are coming on their own merit, not through quotas. Women might soon become Chief Justices as well."
At the event, ten students from two departments of the Faculty of Law were awarded scholarships based on merit. Each recipient was given a check for 12,000 taka and a book by the guests. Advocate Tapan Bihari Nag was present at the event. He said, “I am a grassroots-level lawyer.
I have been in this profession for the last forty years. I have donated ninety percent of what I have earned, leaving only ten percent for my children. Please pray that I face less suffering before I pass away.” Tapan Bihari Nag has established trust scholarships in eight universities, including Jagannath University.
