Mir Afroz Zaman

A high-level delegation of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) is coming to Dhaka to attend the 56th border conference. The conference will be held at the BGB headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka from August 25 to 28.

The Indian Home Ministry said this in a statement on Saturday (August 23). The issues on which the border guards of the two countries will meet at the conference were mentioned in the ministry's statement.

The issues are - preventing cross-border crime, construction of a barbed wire fence in the border area, action against anti-India groups sheltering in Bangladesh, various issues related to border infrastructure, implementation of the Integrated Border Management Plan (CBMP), increasing trust and confidence in each other, etc.

The first conference of the Border Guards of Bangladesh and India was held on December 2, 1975, in Kolkata. At that conference, the then BDR delegation was led by Major General Qazi Golam Dastagir and the BSF delegation was led by former BSF Director General Ashwini Kumar.
The last BGB-BSF meeting was held in New Delhi from February 17-20.

It is mentiined that this is the first time that the BSF delegation is coming to Dhaka after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, 2024, in the face of a student uprising, and the fall of the government led by her.
