Training of farmers on production of spice crops in Tarail

A two-day training on 'improved varieties and technology expansion of spices' under the Directorate of Agricultural Extension under the Ministry of Agriculture has been held at Tarail in Kishoreganj. It is known that the training was held in the Upazila Parishad hall on Wednesday and Thursday with 30 farmers organized by the Upazila Agriculture Office.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Agronomist Suman Kumar Saha gave an important speech on the development of advanced varieties and technology of spices as the chief guest in the training.
Tarek Bin Matin, Upazila Agriculture Assistant Plant Conservation Officer, Azharul Islam, Dhala Union Agriculture Assistant Officer, Tarail-Sachail Sadar Union Agriculture Assistant Officer Mejbah Uddin Khan, Damiha Union Agriculture Assistant Officer Mostafizur Rahman Ripon spoke as special guests.
On this occasion, training was provided on various topics including onion, garlic, chilli, ginger, turmeric, black cumin, fennel, coriander, pepper, bay leaf, cinnamon, cumin, chuizhal and capsicum, along with the production technology of various spices. According to Upazila Agriculture Office sources, the main aim of the project is to bring the new varieties and technologies of spices that have been developed by research institutes to the doorstep of the farmers and to increase production and move Bangladesh forward to achieve self-sufficiency in spices.
It is mentioned that the annual demand of spice crops in Bangladesh is around 24-25 lakh metric tons. 7-8 lakh metric tons of spices are imported into Bangladesh every year. Therefore, the main goal of the project is to move Bangladesh towards self-sufficiency in spice cultivation without relying on imports.
