A teacher has allegedly beaten up a third-grade student in Matiranga, Khagrachari. The incident took place at Palashpur Government Primary School on Sunday at around 2:30 pm.
The injured student is Rayon Islam Saymon (10) and the accused assistant teacher is Rahima Akhter, who works at Matiranga Palashpur Government Primary School.
The student's father, Rabbi Hossain, said, "My son is already a talker, the teacher started beating him in anger because he could not teach the class. When the boy ran out of the classroom and could not resist the beating, she started beating him there too. He ran home from school in fear. Seeing the boy's condition, I quickly took him to the hospital.
Local Md. Rezaul Haque said, "We send our children to school, but school teachers should understand that these tender students should not be disciplined but should be taught with love and affection. Seeing the way they were beaten, other parents will not want to send their children to school. This needs to be properly judged."
Accused assistant teacher Rahima Akhter said, "I asked the boy to read and write, he did not read or write, so I whipped him twice, then I got a little angry because he was sitting with his neck bent, so I beat him a little more, the boy was normal here, he is spoiling the matter by going home. I should not have done this."
It was seen that immediately after the incident, an attempt was made to cover up the incident in front of the local political leaders of the area, the boy's guardian, and the Upazila Primary Education Officer sitting in the school's room. When media personnel went to the spot to collect information, the school's headmaster rushed to manage the journalists.
Matiranga Upazila Primary Education Officer Md. Ashraful Alam Siraji said, "The headmaster informed about this this morning. I quickly went to inspect the ground and saw the student and asked the teacher about it. She admitted that she had whipped him on the head in anger.
Matiranga Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Hafiz said, "Police have been sent to the scene. If the plaintiff's complaint is received, a case will be filed soon."
