Sawmil Workers Federation protest rally held in Sylhet

The Sylhet divisional rally of Bangladesh Sawmill Workers Federation was held on various demands including implementation of the government-announced minimum wage in the sawmill sector, formulation of democratic labor laws and labor codes, establishment of free trade union rights, 8-hour working day, implementation of labor laws including issuance of employment certificates and identity cards, prevention of continuous price increase of daily commodities including rice, pulses and oil, and introduction of automatic rationing system at low prices.
The divisional rally held at Sylhet Court Point on December 27 at 3 pm was presided over by Khalilur Rahman, President of the Central Committee of Sawmill Workers Federation. The rally, organized under the direction of Ruhul Amin, General Secretary of Sylhet District Sawmill Workers Union, was addressed as the main speaker by Sawmill Workers Federation General Secretary Rajat Biswas.
Bangladesh Trade Union Association Sylhet District Committee Acting President Abul Kalam Azad Sarkar, National Democratic Front-NDF Sylhet District Committee Office Secretary Ramzan Ali Patu, National Chhatra Dal Sylhet District Committee Convener Shuvo Azad Shanto, Sylhet District Samil Sramik Union President Ayubur Rahman, Sunamganj Samil Sramik Sangha General Secretary Monir Hossain, Srimangal Upazila Samil Sramik Sangha General Secretary Matiur Rahman, Barelekha Samil Sramik Sangha Co-General Secretary Shahed Mia, Fenchganj Upazila Samil Sramik Sangha President Anwar Hossain, Sylhet Sadar Upazila Samil Sramik Sangha President Fajr Ali, Nabiganj Samil Sramik Sangha leader Ahmed Thakur also spoke the rally.
The speakers expressed their anger and condemnation over the failure of the current government to ensure the insecurity of workers at work and a safe working environment.
Sylhet Zilla Parishad distributes scholarships
Sylhet Zilla Parishad scholarship distribution ceremony- 2024 completed in Sylhet on Thursday.
On the ocassion a colourful programme held at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Rikabi Bazar in Sylhet city organised by Sylhet Zilla Parishad.
Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi attend the ceremony as chief guest.
He said , "We are one of the largest nations in the world in terms of population. We need honest, skilled and patriotic leadership. If this is created, the world will salute us. We do not want division, we want to be united. We have to work together to move the country forward. Those who will create division among us are our national enemies.
Zilla Parishad Administrator and Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Debjit Singho presided over and conducted by District Zilla Parishad Executive Officer Anupama Das.Sylhet Additional Deputy Commissioner Noorer Zaman Chowdhury spoke the ceremony as special guest.
Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Sadwip Kumar Singha delivered the welcome speech.
SSC-2022 student Hasan Al Mahdi and HSC-2022 student Fahmida Atia spoke on behalf of the scholarship recipients. Hasan Ahmed recited from the Holy Quran and Jhumi Rani Nath recited the Gita.
On behalf of the Zilla Parishad, the chief guest presented a memento to the Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet, Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi, and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Sadwip Kumar Singha.
