Rebeka murder case : One gets death, another life-term in Ctg

In the Rebeka Sultan Moni murder case at Bayezid Bostami police station in Chattogram, the court has sentenced Md. Nejam Uddin to death and Md. Abdul Halim to life imprisonment with labor, while acquitting another accused, Abu Siddiq Rubel. The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Judge Sirajam Munira of Chattogram’s Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court (4th), according to court bench assistant Omar Fuad.
According to the case details, on May 11, 2019, under Abdul Halim’s orders, Nejam Uddin strangled Rebecca to death and fled after locking the apartment in Mirdapara area. The incident came to light when a foul odor led police to the scene, where they recovered the body. After investigation, charges were framed against the three accused on August 1, 2022, and trial proceedings began.
Based on the testimony of 11 witnesses, the court sentenced Nejam Uddin to death along with a fine of 20,000 taka, with an additional six months of simple imprisonment in case of non-payment. Abdul Halim was sentenced to life imprisonment with labor and the same fine.
Nejam Uddin was present in court at the time of sentencing and has since been sent to prison. Abdul Halim, who remains at large, is the subject of an arrest warrant.
