Rally in Kurigram protesting false cases, demanding justice

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have staged a protest march in Ulipur, Kurigram, against the filing of a false case in the natural death of a Jubo Dal member, who was falsely accused of turning a love affair into a political issue.
The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the accused in the arson case within 72 hours.
The protest rally was held at Doel Chattar area, Kurigram Government College intersection, in the district town on Monday.
Former president of Kurigram Municipality Jubo Dal and member of District Jubo Dal Md. Wazed Ali Jhinuk, former general secretary of the police station and municipality party Md. Faruk Hossain, president of District Fishermen's Party Md. Azadunnabi Shamim, former general secretary of District Students' Party and Volunteer Party Md. Abdul Hamid Al Hamiduzzaman, former VP and District Students' Party president Tariq Nazmul Rokon, former students' party leader and district volunteer party president Shahanur Ashraf Jewel, convener of Farmers' Party Ripon Rahman, among others, spoke.
At the union level, the miscreants turned a love affair into a political issue, fabricated lies in the name of the renegade leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Central Co-Organizing Secretary Md. Abdul Khalek, and set fire to and looted the houses and shops of several leaders and activists, including Abu Jafar Sohel Rana, the joint convener of the Kurigram District Krishak Dal. This caused damage worth about half a crore taka.
Although Abu Jafar Sohel Rana's wife filed a case as a plaintiff in the fire incident, the protesters called the police administration's silent role a farce trial. Her case No. 28/374, dated 31-12-2024.
Speakers said that they demanded the immediate release of the leaders and activists arrested in a false case over the natural death of a Yudal worker and the arrest of the accused in the fire incident within 72 hours and speedy trial. If this is not done, they will call for more stringent movements and programs, the speakers said.
