Farmer Rabiul succeeds in brinjal cultivation in Chilmari

Farmer Rabiul Islam of Sabbadh area of Ramna Model Union in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram has succeeded in cultivating brinjal. He expects to earn more than 2.5 lakh taka in five months. He started brinjal cultivation after receiving incentive seeds, fertilizer and some related cash from the Upazila Agriculture Office. Now he is selling brinjal on an average of 4 to 5 maunds every day. He is also getting a price of 700 to 800 taka per maund in the market.
The Agriculture Office said that vegetables were cultivated on 550 hectares of land in the upazila during the Rabi season. Among them, there are cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, brinjal and other winter vegetables.
It was learned from the field and from talking to farmers that farmer Rabiul Islam succeeded in cultivating brinjal on one acre of land compared to other vegetables during the Rabi season. Since the profit is high, he has shifted to brinjal cultivation, leaving aside other crops. He grows brinjals in clusters on the trees. He picks 8 to 9 maunds of brinjals from the field every two days. He is also getting a good response in the market. Now, he is meeting the demand of his own area and selling them to the surrounding upazilas. He has already sold brinjals worth about 80 thousand taka from the field. However, this farmer said that if he takes care of this field for the next five months, he will earn more than 2.5 lakh taka.
Rabiul Islam said that only 15 thousand taka has been spent so far to start brinjal cultivation. However, he is already selling brinjals worth about 80 thousand taka.
He said that he will keep the brinjal field until the flood. He will earn more than 2.5 lakh taka from this. Now he also expects all other facilities from the agriculture office to continue.
Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam said that under the project of the agriculture office, Rabiul Islam was given some cash along with incentive seeds, fertilizer. With this, he cultivates brinjal. Now he will earn two to two and a half lakh taka from this field.
Chilmari Upazila Agriculture Officer Kumar Pranoy Bishan Das said that the farmer has been given seeds and fertilizers to plant brinjal on one acre of land under the incentive. He has benefited a lot by cultivating brinjal. We will gradually bring other farmers under the incentive.
