Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah said that due to the questionable elections of the past, the image of all institutions had lost the trust of the people.

All institutions, including the Election Commission, have realized that we need to restore our image through fair elections. We are determined to do this..

He said this while talking to journalists after a meeting on voter list update and the 13th National Parliament elections at the Rangpur Regional Election Officer's office auditorium on Sunday.

Abul Fazal Sanaullah said that the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission is to hold fair National Parliament elections.

We are working with the parliamentary elections in mind. If the local government takes a decision on the elections, then the Election Commission will support. The Election Commissioner said that the election will be held with those who are registered before the announcement of the schedule. We have to see where the overall political and judicial process stands. There are judicial processes, political decisions and consensus issues in the participation of political parties in the elections.

He said that the Chief Advisor said that it is possible to hold elections in December this year or by June next year. It depends on the extent of reforms that will be carried out during this time. Reform work is ongoing. The reform commissions have also submitted recommendations. The Chief Advisor will form a national consensus commission. Through this, opinions related to elections will be taken on a priority basis. Based on this, necessary amendments will be made in the laws and rules. After that, the election process will begin. However, the preliminary process has already started.

Regarding the voting process, he said that the recommendation of the reform commission has said not to vote using EVMs. We have decided that EVMs are not being used in the next national election.

Regarding updating the voter list, the Election Commissioner said that we have started updating the voter list. Through this, the process of conducting a fair election has begun. From the voter list to the voting, everything will be transparent and fair.

Earlier, in the view-sharing meeting chaired by Regional Election Officer Mohammad Azizul Islam, among others, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal, District Police Superintendent Abu Saim spoke. Later, he inspected the voter registration activities at Lions School and College in the city.
