The Media Reform Commission held a meeting with journalists from print and electronic media of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari district at 11 am on Tuesday in the conference room of the Rangamati Deputy Commissioner.

Journalists presented various recommendations in the meeting. The meeting was presided over by the head of the Media Reform Commission, Kamal Ahmed.

Begum Kamrunnesa Hasan, Abdullah Al Mamun, Mostafa Sabuj were present at the time. Journalists from three hill districts were present at the time.

In his speech, the head of the Media Reform Commission, Kamal Ahmed, said that this reform commission has been formed to make the newspaper independent, strong and objective.

He said that there should be a minimum salary scale for all journalists nationally, which all journalists will receive. Recommendations will be made to ensure the economic security of journalists. Recommendations will be made to enact a "Journalism Protection Act" with the aim of providing professional protection to journalists.

He also said, this Press Council is completely ineffective. There is no need for it anymore. The Press Council has lost its credibility. This Press Council needs to be abolished and a new effective institution needs to be established. Where there will be representation of the media people, civil society, readers and viewers. Where there should be a system of accountability for journalists and there should also be a system to protect the freedom of journalists.

In the meeting, journalists presented various recommendations to the Media Reform Commission. They said that the economic security of journalists as well as their lives should be ensured. The media should be kept free from the hands of influential politicians. False cases against journalists should be withdrawn.

To join a newspaper as an editor, one must have a professional degree in journalism. Proper training should be provided to district journalists.
