Hundreds of people form human chain against drug dealer family in Barishal
Barishal Bureau
The youth of Karapur and its surrounding unions, including people of all ages, are on the verge of destruction due to drug addiction.
The future generation is under threat. The youth relax in the evening. They are involved in various misdeeds. For almost a decade and a half, the poison of drugs has been spreading in Karapur and surrounding unions, including Shahjahan Sardar of Shibpasha village and his son Riaz Hesen Sardar, along with their family members. Since Riaz's maternal uncle is a senior police officer, the law enforcement agencies have played a passive role against this drug-dealing family. After the A.League came to power, Riaz expanded the drug trade by claiming his membership in the Jubo League in Karapur Union.
The above words were expressed by local representatives, political leaders and activists, rural doctors, businessmen and students in a human chain organized by hundreds of local people. The human chain was held at Basurhat, Raypasha Karapur Union No. 1, Barisal Sadar Upazila, at 12 noon on Friday (August 8). After the human chain, the local people held a protest march.
The speakers at the human chain included Roypasha Karapur Union Acting Chairman Md. A. Rasid Sardar, Karapur Union BNP President Md. Rafiqul Islam, Senior Vice President and UP Member Md. Habibur Rahman Mintu, Former Vice President Monir Talukder, Union Chhatra Dal General Secretary Raihan Khalifa and Barisal Government Syed Hatem Ali College student leader Shakil Khan, along with Binoykathi Union BNP leaders Farid Uddin Radhi and Halim Khan.
The speakers at the human chain also said that even though the police have been informed repeatedly, they are always playing a mysterious role. On the contrary, this drug-dealing family has deep ties with some police officers. If the administration cannot stop the drug business of this family after the human chain, thousands of people will take the law into their own hands and protect the youth of the society.
Present at the human chain were Raipasha Karapur Union BNP General Secretary Azadi Hasanat Firoz, village doctor Uttam Kumar, Barisal District South Zia Manch Vice President Md. Mostafizur Rahman, and hundreds of residents of different villages, including about fifty businessmen from Basurhat.
Locals say that if necessary steps are not taken against drugs, society will be further destroyed. To build a drug-free society, local people's representatives, including families, society and local administration, will have to play a leading role. Local people's representatives and people from all walks of life have already joined the people in Karapur. Drug trafficking and consumption is constantly increasing in Karapur - on the one hand, teenagers and young people are on the path of destruction, and on the other hand, society is being destroyed. Therefore, if the administration fails to protect society, the people will take action.
Shahjahan Sardar of Shibpasha village of Karapur was a farmer, and his son Riaz Hossein Sardar was a hired motorcycle driver. The entire family, including father and son, have now become millionaires by trading in marijuana and yaba.
Accused Shahjahan Sardar and Riaz Hessen Sardar said - they used to consume and sell drugs during the AL period but they don't do it now. This is happening now due to political jealousy and revenge.
