Journalists in Joypurhat formed a human chain and held a protest rally demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the brutal killing of Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a journalist of Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, in Gazipur, and the severe assault on Anwar Hossain, a journalist of Dainik Bangladesher Alo.
The program, organized by Joypurhat Press Club, took place at 12:30 pm on Saturday at the town’s Zero Point. More than a hundred journalists from various print and electronic media outlets participated.
Speakers at the event included Joypurhat Press Club President Abu Bakar Siddique, Vice President Mashrekul Alam Rezaul Karim Reza, General Secretary Masud Rana, Joint General Secretary Shamim Kadir, senior journalists Nazrul Islam, Shahabuddin, Abdul Alim, and Moazzem Hossain, among other media leaders.
The speakers condemned the incident, stating, “In front of hundreds of people, a journalist was brutally murdered and another was critically injured. If the perpetrators are not sentenced to death under the speedy trial law, journalists will wage an even larger movement.”
