Lohagara (Narail) Correspondent
Locals have formed a human chain demanding steps to prevent river erosion in Chapulia village of Kotakol union in Lohagara Upazila in Narail.
The human chain was held at 3 pm on Friday in the presence of hundreds of people at the site of the erosion in the village.
Speakers at the human chain said that the village, which has been affected by river erosion for a long time, is almost on the verge of extinction. Since the village is located on the last border of Narail, this village is a victim of negligence by higher authorities.
In the past few days, some control has been achieved due to the dumping of sandbags at the site of the Chapulia Dalikh Madrasa collapse.
Besides , numerous mosques and Qawmi Madrasas, including primary schools, are under threat. In the past few days, 4/5 hundred houses from Chapulia to North Khashial Kheaghat have been demolished and people have taken shelter in the Gopalganj area across the river, and the road for people in 10 villages along the riverbank has become unusable due to river erosion.
The dirt road has been temporarily repaired with the help of locals without any government grant. If measures are not taken to prevent river erosion quickly, this road will also go into the river. Hundreds of families living on the banks of the river will lose their homes. Therefore, the affected locals called for immediate prevention of river erosion.
The head teacher of the village, Munshi Amirul Islam, another teacher, Shamim Munshi, former UP members Ibrahim Molya, Nannu Sardar, Akbar and Imdadul Haque, and many others spoke at the time.
