Human chain demanding end to illegal sand extraction from Padma River in Madaripur

A human chain and protest program was held in the Padma River of Shibchar Upazila's Kathalbari, Char Janajat Union in Madaripur demanding an end to illegal sand extraction from the Padma River.
On Tuesday morning, a human chain was held in the Banglabazar area at the initiative of residents of Shibchar Upazila's Kathalbari, Char Janajat Union from all walks of life.
At this time, thousands of people including former member of Kathalbari Union Tota Mia Howlader, former member Latifar Khan, former member Mahmud Fakir, farmer Kala Mia Howlader, Hirun Chowkidar, Mannan Munshi and others attended and protested against illegal sand extraction from the Padma River.
The speakers present said that for a long time, an influential group has been illegally extracting sand from the Padma River in Charchandra, Kathalbari, Charjanajat Union of Shibchar Upazila and selling it.
Illegal sand trade is going on simultaneously from numerous places in the Padma River. People from all walks of life have announced to blockade the naval police outpost if the illegal dredgers used in the Padma River are not stopped within the next two days.
