The 75th anniversary of the Department of Geography and Environment, Dhaka University was celebrated on Friday, February 28, 2025, through various day-long programs.

The programmes included discussions, seminars, cultural programs, raffle draws.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the day-long programs in a colourful program at the central playground in the morning.

Chaired by Prof Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment, the inaugural program was attended by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as the chief guest and Prof Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Dhaka University, as the special guest. Organizing Committee Member Secretary Md. Monowar Hossain Khan delivered the welcome speech. Professor Mohammad Safi Ullah expressed his gratitude.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized on the development of alumni relations with the university and said that alumni should come forward to improve the education and research of the university and help the needy students. He expressed the hope that the university's relations with alumni will be further strengthened through such programs.

Syeda Rizwana Hassan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, called on the students of the Department of Geography and Environment to play an effective role in creating public awareness about the environment.

She said that a healthy environment is necessary for the socio-economic development of the country. Everyone should work together to ensure a healthy environment and sustainable development.
