Dialogue on organic, climate-resilient sustainable agriculture in Phulbari

A dialogue on organic and climate-resilient sustainable agriculture was held in Phulbari. On Tuesday at 10 am at the Officers Club of Phulbari Upazila, Kurigram.
Organized by Udayankur Sheba Sangstha, implemented by Activista Kurigram in collaboration with Action Aid Bangladesh, a dialogue on organic and climate-resilient sustainable agriculture was held under the chairmanship of Rabiul Islam, project coordinator of Udayankur Sheba Sangstha.
The speakers included Fulbari Upazila Agriculture Officer Nilufa Yasmin, Agricultural Extension Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, ActionAid Bangladesh's Deputy Manager of Partnership and Programs MD Arif Siddiqui, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Ashraful Haque, Shyamoli Rani, Activista Kurigram member Siam Hossain, Baravita Srijani Youth Organization Treasurer Shimu Sheikh and many others.
Present at the event were Deputy Assistant Agricultural Officers of the Upazila Agricultural Office, Sidratul Muntaha, representative of Action Aid Bangladesh, Nur Nabi Islam, Program Officer of Udayankur Sheba Sangstha (USS), representatives of Activista Kurigram, and many other women farmers.
At the meeting, members of Activista Kurigram and women farmers raised the following demands for the expansion of organic and climate-resilient agricultural systems:
Providing technical assistance in the development of nutritional gardens, training 50 young women farmers on vermicompost, training 150 people on climate-tolerant sustainable agriculture, planting tree seedlings for greening, giving notice to nursery owners to stop the production of eucalyptus and Akashmani seedlings and conducting campaigns if necessary.
Supplying and making flood and drought-tolerant seeds easily available, increasing youth participation in agriculture, providing incentives for the cultivation of sesame, tishi, almonds, dhunia, onion and garlic in the char areas of the Dharla River, providing training for the formation of seed banks locally, creating an online platform with farmers at the upazila level, ensuring agricultural credit and agricultural insurance facilities on easy terms, ensuring financial and technical assistance for the expansion of organic agriculture, providing priority allocation to marginal and small farmers.
