A journalist's family has been allegedly attacked by terrorists for publishing news in Mithapukur on Monday afternoon.

The nephews of two Jubo League leaders who had obtained positions in the BNP attacked the journalist's house in Kagojipara, Thakurbari, Bhangni Union of the upazila, and their followers.

Later, the younger brother of the victim journalist, Khandaker Redowanul Islam, filed a complaint with Mithapukur Police Station. OC of Mithapukur Police Station Abu Bakkar Siddique confirmed the complaint.

Earlier, on Saturday and Sunday, a news item titled 'Jubo League leader in BNP committee in Mithapukur' was published in various newspapers including Amadar Somoy and Daily Campus. The source of the complaint said that the attack was carried out because of this.

According to the complaint, in the newly approved ward 2 BNP committee in Bhangni union of the upazila, Jubo League president of that ward, Rawzar Hossain Shayon, was made the joint secretary and Awami League activist Idris Ali Lion, who led the cadre group that robbed Awami League votes during the last election, was made the general secretary of ward 2 BNP.

It is alleged that this committee was given in exchange for a large sum of money. In this regard, a news item titled 'Jub League leader in Mithapukur BNP committee' was published in several media outlets including the daily Ameer Soom on March 1. Since the news was published, Jubo League leaders Shayon and Lion, who had recently joined BNP, have been threatening journalists publishing the news through various means. Due to this, at 4 pm on Sunday, BNP leader Idris Ali Lion's nephews, Mokchedul, Moklesur, Moktarul Islam, and Akhtar Hossain, armed with country-made weapons, deliberately started cutting down a jackfruit tree adjacent to the residence of Khandaker Rakibul Islam, Rangpur correspondent of the daily Amadre Somoy .

When the victim journalist's younger brother Khandaker Redoanul Islam stopped him, they beat him severely.

Locals rescued the injured Redoanul Islam and sent him to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex. Later, the national emergency service 999 was called and the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.

In this regard, the victim journalist Khandaker Rakibul Islam said, news was published about a person who had been terrorizing the Bhangni Union area for the past decade, claiming to be an Awami cadre, getting a position in the BNP. Later, the nephew of that cadre attacked my family. Although 24 hours have passed since the attack, the administration has not taken any action. If journalists in this country do not get security, how will the administration provide security to the common people ?

Mithapukur Police Station ASI Md. Mithun said, I went to the spot after receiving a call from the National Emergency Service 999. Later, I asked the victim journalist's family to file a complaint with the police station.

Mithapukur Police Station OC Abu Bakkar Siddique said, I sent a force to the spot as soon as I received the news. The victim journalist's younger brother has filed a complaint with Mithapukur Police Station in this regard.
