Allegations of disruption of production at export-oriented factory in Sreepur

There have been allegations of obstruction of infrastructure development work at an export-oriented factory in Sreepur, Gazipur. This has hampered the factory's production and disrupted the export of goods.
The incident took place at Confidence Knitwear Limited in Dhanua village of the upazila. It is also alleged that the accused demanded a dues of Tk 5 lakh from the factory authorities to keep the development work going.
This information was revealed in a written complaint filed by the factory's administrative officer Md. Abdul Bari to the Sreepur police station. The accused are - Md. Ramzan Ali, son of the deceased Jamal Uddin of Dhanua village, Md. Alamgir Hossain, son of the late Sultan Uddin, Emon Khan, son of the late Sharafat Ali, Faruk Mia, son of the late Momtaz Ali of the neighboring Gazipur village, and at least 6 unidentified people.
According to the complaint, the factory authorities recently took the initiative to clear the land they purchased and build a fence. Since then, the accused have been demanding a ransom of 5 lakh taka from the factory authorities. They threatened to block the development work on the land and kill and injure people if the demanded money was not paid. On December 26 last year, around 9 am, during the development work, the accused came to the spot armed with country-made weapons and demanded the demanded ransom of 5 lakh taka. When they refused, the factory authorities threatened to kill and injure the workers and disappear the bodies. After this incident, the factory authorities stopped the development work due to security concerns. This is disrupting the production and exports of the export-oriented company.
