A total of 40 people were arrested in a joint force operation in Rajshahi metropolis, including 8 in Operation Devil Hunt, in a raid by Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and DB police yesterday.

Like the rest of the country, 'Operation Devil Hunt' has been conducted to prevent instability in Rajshahi metropolis. In the last 24 hours, 8 people have been arrested on charges of attacking the anti-discrimination student movement, causing explosions, terrorist activities and other crimes. In addition, 32 people have been arrested in the RMP operation, including 5 people with warrants, 4 people in drug cases and 23 for other crimes.

Those arrested in Operation Devil Hunt are Md. Akhtarul Alam (59), Md. Bakul (28), Al-Amin Hossain alias Bappi (35), Md. Imran Hossain Imu (30), Md. Abu Sayeed (35), Md. Selim Hossain alias Almas (45), Md. Sujan (33) and Md. Munjur (28).

Akhtarul Alam is the son of the late Rezaul Karim of Hazrapukur New Colony area of Chandrima police station in Rajshahi metropolis. He is the former president of Shah Makhdum police station Awami League. Bakul is the son of Md. Zulmat of Mirzapur area of Motihar police station. He is a former member of Ward No. 30 Chhatra League. Awami League activist Al-Amin is the son of the deceased Bablu of the Panchabti area of Boalia Model Police Station, Imran Hossain is the son of the deceased Syed Ali of the Panchabti Kharbona area of the same police station, Abu Sayeed is the son of Md. Enamul of the Kedur More area, Selim Hossain is the son of the deceased Akkas of the Chowk Panchani Math area of Sheikh, Sujan is the son of the deceased Habibur Rahman of the same area and Munjur is the son of Md. Ranu Sheikh of the Panchabti Crematorium Ghat area.

Legal action was taken against the arrested accused.
