Writ for prompt action after investigation into looting of white stones

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking an investigation into the indiscriminate looting of stones in the popular tourist spot of Sada Pathor area in Bholaganj of Sylhet’s Companiganj upazila and prompt action against those responsible.

The petitioner, Supreme Court lawyer Mir AKM Nurun Nabi, gave this information on Thursday. 

The writ stated that the relevant authorities of the government should take appropriate action against those responsible for the incident and that additional members of the law enforcement agencies should be deployed there. In addition, the writ sought a rule asking for an explanation regarding the inaction of the relevant government officials in taking action against those responsible for the looting of white stones.

The writ sought a directive to submit an investigation report within 15 days. Apart from the Home Secretary, the respondents include the Environment Secretary, the IGP, the DC of Sylhet, the UNO of Companiganj, and 10 others.
