Mirsarai Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Executive Magistrate Md. Saiful Islam has destroyed two shallow dredger machines, 1 excavator and 1,500 feet of pipes during an operation conducted during illegal sand extraction in Mirsarai, Chittagong.
The operation was conducted from 5 pm to 6:30 pm on Saturday. The operation was conducted with the cooperation of the concerned forest department including Zorarganj Police Station and Mirsarai Range Forest Officer Al Amin.
It is learned that after receiving information about illegal sand extraction using shallow dredger machines in Hinguli Canal of Hinguli Union No. 2 of the upazila, the Mirsarai Upazila administration conducted a mobile coat operation.
During this time, two shallow dredger machines and a bucket used for sand extraction from the canal were damaged. In addition, about 1,500 feet of connection pipes installed for sand extraction were destroyed.
Mirsarai Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Saiful Islam said, 'No one involved in sand extraction was found at the scene. Therefore, it was not possible to bring anyone under the law. The Mirsarai Upazila administration will continue such campaigns in the public interest against illegal sand extraction.'
