2024 revolution was not for looters to plunder : Dr Moyeen Khan
Staff Correspondent,Narayanganj
We must learn from history, history never forgives. Today, the Awami League has been thrown into the dustbin for its misdeeds, yet they show no remorse. The Awami League is dreaming an impossible dream: to use foreign powers to return to power. But those fanciful dreams will never be realized, said BNP Standing Committee member and former minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan.
He said, The revolution of 2024 was not meant for looters to plunder again. As a result of that revolution, we cannot allow a new class of looters to once again seize the country and strip it bare. We must not betray the blood of the students and people who sacrificed their lives. Each of you must remain vigilant about this.
He made these remarks on Saturday while addressing a memorial meeting as the chief guest at Murapara College Auditorium in Rupganj, marking the 13th death anniversary of former Home Minister Abdul Matin Chowdhury.
Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan further said that the Sheikh family has held the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War hostage to facilitate money laundering and plunder. “They did not allow the true spirit of the Liberation War to be implemented. Over the years, they established a dynastic system, and through that system, they stripped the people of their democratic rights. In the upcoming elections, the BNP will form a government to restore people’s rights.”
He added that the BNP does not engage in a politics of revenge; rather, it teaches patience in politics. The BNP’s aim is to foster tolerance and fraternal unity in politics. “When BNP comes to power in the next election, it will never compromise its principles as it did in the past. It will stand against all forms of injustice and irregularities and ensure the highest punishment for offenders.”
He continued, “If we commit injustice, corruption, or extortion, then the blood of the martyrs will have been shed in vain—remember this. We must honor the expectations the people have of us.”
“Our politics should be about working together to rebuild Bangladesh anew on the world stage. I have one request for you: let us reject the Awami League’s politics of hatred, revenge, repression, lawsuits, and attacks. Let us reject their politics of oppression, disappearances, and killings. In the future, let us build a politics of peace—politics that serves the welfare of the people.”
Recalling Abdul Matin Chowdhury, Dr. Moyeen Khan said that the late former home minister was the visionary behind modern Rupganj and the Purbachal New Town. “When Purbachal was first planned, the people of Rupganj opposed it they could not imagine it would one day become a modern city. Today, around Purbachal, countless major development projects are underway. Yet, there is no plaque or memorial in the upazila honoring Matin Chowdhury, which is truly regrettable.”
The memorial meeting was presided over by BNP central committee member and freedom fighter Kazi Moniruzzaman Monir, and conducted by former joint member secretary of the district Jubo Dal, Advocate Amirul Islam Iman. Others who spoke included former convenor of Narayanganj District BNP Nasir Uddin, former district Jubo Dal president Mosharraf Hossain, district Swechchhasebak Dal convenor Mahbubur Rahman, district Krishak Dal president Shahin Mia, former convenor committee member of district BNP Hamidul Haque Khan, Tarabo Municipality Jubo Dal member secretary Kazi Ahad, and district Chhatra Dal leader Abu Mohammad Masum.
