A Titas Gas official was allegedly attacked in Rupganj, Narayanganj, after disconnecting an illegal residential gas connection. According to Titas authorities, the attackers also looted equipment used for the disconnection drive.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning  in the Sonabo area of Bhulta Union, Rupganj Upazila. Following the attack, Engineer Din Islam, Deputy Assistant Engineer at Titas Gas’s Rupshi office, filed a complaint with Rupganj Police Station.

Engineer Din Islam stated that while conducting a regular drive against illegal gas connections, the team disconnected the unauthorized gas line of Habibullah, son of Jangu Mia of Sonabo area. At that time, Habibullah, along with his associate Russell Mia—son of late Abdul Kadir Mia of Golakandaile New Bazar area—and 20–25 unidentified individuals, launched a sudden attack on him, leaving him seriously injured. When other members of the disconnection team rushed to rescue him, they were also assaulted.

The attackers then snatched Din Islam’s ID card, welding machine, welding cables, iron pipes, and riser equipment before fleeing. Later, police from Bhulta outpost rescued the injured officials after a call was made to the national emergency helpline 999 and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex.

Rupganj Police Station OC  Tariqul Islam confirmed receiving a complaint regarding the incident and said that legal action would be taken following investigation.
