Kawsar Mahmud, Sonagazi (Feni) 

 A  team from Local Government Engineering Department (LGED)  and the contractor firm National Development Engineers (NDE) conducted a site inspection in Sonagazi, Feni, for the construction of two four-lane bridges over the Feni River, a 4-kilometer four-lane connecting road, river training, and slope protection works.

 These are being developed to establish a crucial road link to the economic zone.

The inspection took place on Wednesday with on-site presence of key officials including Feni LGED Executive Engineer Md. Mahmud Al Faruq, Upazila Engineer Md. Monir Hossain, NDE’s General Manager Engineer Md. Kamruzzaman, Project Manager Engineer Saiful Islam, along with local BNP leaders including Sonagazi Upazila BNP Joint Convener and former mayor Jamal Uddin Sentu, Secretary Syed Alam Bhuiyan, Upazila Jubo Dal Convener Khurshid Alam Bhuiyan, and leader Enam.

According to project sources, National Development Engineers (NDE) has undertaken the “Bridge Construction over Feni River” project with a budget of Tk 630.21 crore. The project include : Two 4-lane bridges (640 meters and 230 meters in length), 4 kilometers of 4-lane connecting road, 4..29 kilometers of river training and  3..365 kilometers of slope protection.

Executive Engineer Md. Mahmud Al Faruq of Feni LGED stated that there is currently no access road available for transporting essential materials for bridge construction. Therefore, in coordination with the contractor, site visits were conducted to finalize access points that will also support future connectivity with Sonagazi.

Engineer Md. Kamruzzaman, GM of NDE, confirmed that construction has already begun and the firm is working with the goal of completing the entire project within three years.

Sonagazi Upazila Engineer Md. Monir Hossain added that the initiative to connect Bangladesh’s largest economic zone with Sonagazi began led by  LGED Project Director and proud son of Sonagazi, Engineer Aminur Rashid Chowdhury Masud. With his continuous effort, the project is being implemented in the region and is expected to transform the surrounding chars and settlements through development.
