Zainul Festival begins at DU

The 3-day Zainul Festival, marking the 110th birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin, a pioneer of modern art in Bangladesh, began at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University on Friday.
Dhaka University Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the festival as the chief guest.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Professor Dr. Azharul Islam Sheikh, Emeritus Professor Md. Abul Hashem Khan, Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar, Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Shilpacharya-son Engineer Moinul Abedin, Director of Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation Kazi Mahbubul Alam, CEO of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited Md. Mohsin Habib Chowdhury, Biplob Saha, the head of Bishwarang, and teachers, students and artists of the faculty were present.
Treasurer Professor Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said in his inaugural speech that organizing this festival is a wonderful initiative to highlight the country's art and culture.
It is worth noting that the Faculty of Fine Arts has been organizing this festival every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin. This year's festival has been organized with various programs including a folk art fair with various artworks of handicraftsmen and students of the faculty from different parts of the country, an exhibition of selected artworks by faculty teachers, a commemorative speech, the presentation of the 'Zainul Sammanna' medal, and cultural performances.
