
Young man beaten to death in Cumilla

A youth Mohin Uddin alias Gaua (28) was allegedly beaten to death in Chouddagram of Cumilla . The incident took place in the upazila's Champachou Eidgah area on Saturday evening. The deceased is the son of Abdul Quader of Khatra village of Gunavati Union of Mohin Uddin Upazila. Trinath Saha, officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed the information on Saturday evening .
Stating that there are multiple cases against the victim of the murder, Mohin Uddin, including rape, the police say that he was beaten to death after he was caught stealing. On the other hand, Mohin Uddin's wife Akalima Akhter Lima claimed that her husband was beaten to death in a planned manner due to a previous dispute.
According to the police and local sources, Mohin Uddin is accused in several cases including rape, theft, robbery and eviction. He was recently released from jail on bail. On Saturday morning , a motorcycle was stolen from the house of a man named Sarwar Alam in Champachau village of Gunavati Union of the upazila and hidden elsewhere. When he again went to the house and stole one of their CNG auto-rickshaws, Sarwar's family members shouted loudly that he was a thief.
At that time, people from nearby chased Mohin Uddin and arrested him at Dhanara Eidgah in the same area and beat him up. Mohin Uddin's younger sister Salma Akhtar and her husband Naeem got the news when he was seriously injured in the lynching. After receiving the news, he was taken to Feni General Hospital and the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Mofizur Rahman, sub-inspector of the Kankapait police investigation center in Chauddagram, said, "Mohin Uddin is a known thief." After stealing a motorcycle and hiding it on Saturday night, the mob was caught stealing it again in the morning. He was mobbed by an agitated crowd before we called the National Emergency Service 999 and rushed to the scene. After being injured in the public beating, his relatives received information and took him to Feni General Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
Akalima Akhtar Lima, wife of the victims , said, "My husband used to travel on bad roads. Recently, after receiving the news of the arrival of one of our children in the world, he gave up all his misdeeds and became good. He started earning his livelihood by driving CNG autorickshaws on various roads of Chauddagram. Thinking about the future of the unborn child, we came from Khatra village and stayed in a rented house in Chauddagram Municipal Area Training Center.
Akalima Akhter Lima also said, "My husband Mohin Uddin goes to Khatra village on Friday evening with the market for his mother on a motorcycle. From there, Dasabaha came out about going to the village next to her sister's house. Since then his mobile phone has been ringing but no one has answered it. On Saturday morning I came to know through my sister Salma Akhter, that he was beaten and detained.
At one point we went to Dhanara Eidgah and saw Mohin Uddin lying on the ground. He was rescued and taken to Feni General Hospital where the doctor declared him dead. Akalima Akhtar claims, "Some people beat him to death with pre-planned accusations of theft".
Dr. Md. Asif Iqbal, resident doctor of Feni General Hospital, said, "A man named Mohin Uddin, who was injured in the beating, was brought to the hospital by his relatives. He died before being taken to the hospital. We did not need to give him any treatment.
Trinath Saha, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram police station, said, "There are several cases against Mahin Uddin including rape. We learned through the locals that he was caught by the mob while stealing on Friday night and injured in the thrashing. His relatives took him to Feni General Hospital after rescue. He died while undergoing treatment there.
