The workers of the Mifkeef Apparels Limited Factory in Khanpara Road area protested and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to demand outstanding salary on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the angry workers took a protest procession and went in front of the residence of Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Zayeda Khatun. Later they blocked the Dhaka-bound lane of the highway. On being informed, the industrial police reached there and removed the workers from the highway.

The workers said that the Mifkeef factory authorities have not paid their arrears for the month of April. When he asks for salary, he starts pretending that he is giving. They were supposed to be paid last Monday but the authorities did not pay the salary till evening.

They got angry and left. Later on Tuesday morning, when the authorities stayed at the factory to demand salary, the authorities could not give any reply. Later they took a procession and took position at the head of Khapara Road on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. At this time they blocked the highway for 10 minutes. On being informed, Shilpa and Thana police removed them from the highway. Later, they took a procession and took a position in front of the residence of Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Zayda Khatun.

Mifkeef Appearance Limited factory administrative officer. Anisur Rahman said that the money could not be withdrawn due to complications in the bank. The dues of the workers will be paid within a week.

Industrial Police ASP Mosharraf Hossain said that the workers are owed the salary for the month of April. So they went in front of the mayor's house and blocked the highway for about 10 minutes. The workers left the highway when they contacted the factory authorities and promised to pay their salaries.
