Workers' protest against closure of factory in Tongi

Workers protested in a garment factory in Tongi, Gazipur, due to the announcement of closure due to arrears of wages. The workers protested in front of BHIS Apparels Limited factory in Dattapara area of Tongir from morning to 1 pm on Tuesday, May 21. According to the workers, about 1 thousand 300 workers work in the factory. Salary due for last month of April.

The owner is not paying the salary even after announcing the date for several days. When he came to work at 8 am, he found an indefinite factory closure notice at the main gate. Later they took position on the road in front of the factory.

Moved from there and stayed in Hossain Market area of Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Meanwhile, the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway's Dhaka-bound lane was closed for about 20 minutes. Later, on the assurance of the police, the workers moved away from the road and again stood in front of the factory. Gazipur Industrial Police Additional Superintendent of Police Mosharraf Hossain said that the workers protested against the closure of the factory due to arrears of salary.

At that time they demanded to open the factory along with payment of outstanding salary. Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector (Tongi Zone) Md. Osman Ali said that workers were dissatisfied with the outstanding salary of last April. The factory was closed with notice. The police are trying to contact the factory owner.
