Whip Shamsul served show-cause notice

The Election Inquiry Committee has issued a show-cause notice to Jatiya Sangsad Whip Samshul Haque Chowdhury for submitting nomination papers by riding a vehicle carrying the national flag and taking police protocol, showing thumb to the electoral code of conduct.
The chairman of the Election Inquiry Committee appointed in charge of Chattogram-12 (Patia) constituency, Senior Assistant Judge Sheikh Md Mohibullah issued the notice on Friday.
Samshul has been asked to appear in person at the office of the chairman of the Election Inquiry Committee and give an explanation in a notice issued citing sources in the online edition of a national daily.
Having failed to secure a party ticket from Chattogram-12, Shamsul, the current Member of Parliament of the constituency is running independently.
He visited the office of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman’s office around 2:15 pm on Thursday, riding a car carrying the national flag and enjoying police protocol in violation of the election code of conduct.
According to Article 14(1) and 14(2) of the electoral rules, individuals benefiting from the government cannot integrate “election programmes or activities” into their government agenda.
Moreover, they are prohibited from using government vehicles, government propaganda machines, or other government facilities for election campaigning for themselves or others.
