Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Jannatul Ferdous has resolved the waterlogging of about a thousand bighas of agricultural land in 10 villages onThursday in Natore's Baraigram.

The water of 10 villages including Tirail, Agran, Nurdah, Atua, Gurumshol of the upazila used to come down from the upper part to Chinidanga bill through 500 meters of privately owned low land. Then the water from the Chinidanga bill falls into the Baral river of Chulkati area through a four km. long canal which was dug by the Water Development Board. But in the Gurmshol area, after the digging a few ponds 3/4 years ago in privately owned low-lying land, waterlogging occurs in the 1000 bighas of agricultural land of 10 villages during the monsoon season.

Farmers are affected. Similar floods occur this year as well. In this, about 1000 bighas of agricultural land of various paddy was submerged under water due to flooding caused by heavy rains. Farmers face difficulties in jute cutting.

Irri paddy planting is disturbed due to waterlogging. Following the request of local residents to resolve the situation, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer visited the site last Thursday and after discussion with the local people, one side of the pond of Jahangir Alam was cut off . In this, the trapped water from Thursday fell into the canal and the flooding of 1000 bighas of land was eliminated.

It is noted that through this canal from Gurumshol to Chulkati, water from Chinidanga, Lakshichamari, Bildobila, Chulkati bill flows into the Baral river.

Ibrahim Hossain, Makhlesur Rahman of Noordah village of the upazila said that it is very necessary to dig a canal of about 500 meters along the lower part of Gurumshol area to solve this waterlogging permanently.
At that time, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Ashraful Islam, Upazila Agriculture Officer Sharmin Sultana, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abdur Razzak and the general public of the area helped Upazila Nirbahi Officer Laila Jannatul Ferdous.
