A court has ordered the seizure of property worth 40 lakh taka and the freezing of 57 bank accounts belonging to Nurul Jaman Ahmed, former member of parliament for Lalmonirhat-2 and ex-social welfare minister, and his wife Hosne Ara.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court passed the order on Monday following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the court order, there is a total of 6 crore 26 lakh 50 thousand taka in 32 bank accounts under Nurul Jaman Ahmed’s name and 81 lakh 65 thousand 937 taka in 25 accounts under his wife’s name.
The ACC said that there are doubts about where this money and property came from. As part of their investigation, they have decided to seize the assets and freeze the accounts.
