Water transport workers calls indefinite strike from Tuesday

Water transport workers will observe indefinite strike from Tuesday (March 5) to press home their 11-point demands.
Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation announced the strike at a press briefing held at Jatiya Press Club at 11:30am on Sunday.
The leaders of the federation vowed to continue their strike until their demands are met.
Their demands include: social safety of the water transport workers, to stop extortion on the waterways, providing landing passes and stopping harassment of India-bound workers.
Md Sha Alam, president of the federation, said, "Our movement have been on for years demanding a permanent solution to these problems. The government and the concerned authorities accepted the demands of the workers' movement and implemented some measures, but most of the decisions were ignored for years. For this reason, we announced this strike with 11 demands."
