Water levels rising in Kurigram rivers
Kurigram Correspondent
Water levels in almost all the rivers in Kurigram district have risen over the past week due to heavy rainfall, sparking fears of floods among the villagers living along river banks.
Surge in upstream water flow has also helped raise water levels in rivers including Teesta, Dharla and Dudhkumar.
The local Water Development Board office has said the water levels are set to rise significantly further due to the heavy rainfall projected in the next 72 hours in the country’s northern districts.
Executive Engineer Md Rakibul Islam of the local Water Development Board has, however, has downplayed the risks of flood, saying the water levels in the rivers would recede soon.
And yet, water has already seeped into the low-lying areas along Teesta riverbanks and river erosions have also started.
