A local Chhatra League leader has threatened voters in Rupganj of Narayanganj to cut off their electricity, gas, and water supplies if they do not vote for “boat,” the election symbol of the Awami League, in the upcoming parliamentary polls, slated for 7 January.

Sheikh Farid Bhuiyan Masum, general secretary of Rupganj upazila unit Chhatra League, made the threat while campaigning for Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, who is vying for the Narayanganj-1 constituency (Rupganj) as the nominated candidate of the ruling party.

Meanwhile, a video of the threat went viral on social media.

“You have to cast your vote for the boat. Keep it in mind, otherwise you will find your water, electricity, and gas connections cut off,” Masum said during the campaign.

He also threatened the voters of dire consequences if they did something else.
