
Vivekananda Theatre to stage ‘Uttaran’ in New Year

Theatre troupe Vivekananda Theatre will stage its production titled “Uttaran” at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital today.
Uttaran, the 23rd production of the troupe, has been written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and directed by Subhasish Datta Tanmoy.
The play sheds light on the quote from Swami Vivekananda “It is a sin to call a man a sinner”. The play depicts that many people become involved in wrongdoings due to existing harsh realities and they will turn over a new leaf if they have access to opportunities in the society.
“Uttaran” revolves around a community of thieves, who have limited access to resources and opportunities due to prevalent poverty and discrimination in the society.
The cast of the play includes Santanu Saha, Subhasish Datta Tanmoy, Tarak Nath Das, AR Kibria Haque, Amitav Razib, Sumit Chandra Das, Mahmudul Hasan, Ratan Mohan Biswas, Shubham Mondal and Niloy Huq.
Fazle Rabbee Sukarnoo designed the stage of the play while Hadmidur Rahman Pappu designed the music, Subhasish Datta Tanmoy designed the costume and did the makeup of the artistes, Kamrul Hasan Ferdous did the choreography, and Palash Hendry Sen designed stage lighting of the play.
